Moss Plastic Parts

Moss Plastic Parts is a leading manufacturer and distributor of protection and finishing products for a wide range of industrial applications.

Within their production process, water is used to cool both the machines and the injection mould tools. Historically, the cooling system was quite expensive to run: a large forced air system cooled the hydraulic circuits while chillers maintained the mould cooling system at a constant 15°C.

Our cost-effective solution was to utilise the spare capacity in the air blast coolers to pre-cool the mould circuit using the IsoFC packaged device, reducing demand on the chillers and saving energy at the same time.

Since installation in January 2009, the chillers automatically switch off, either entirely or partially, on most evenings. Moss Plastic Parts estimates it should save in the region of 302,000 kilowatt hours per year – approximately 50% of the energy they were using previously. This will save them £36,000 per annum.

Operations Director Maurice Callan is very pleased: "Through the CCA we will get an 80% reduction on our CCL if we hit our target. It's a great incentive to install IsoCool's IsoFC. The installation caused no disruption; preparation was done over the Christmas shut down, and the IsoFC was literally plugged in on our return. It's very easy to maintain - IsoCool put it in and they service it twice a year along with the rest of our cooling plant."
