Carclo Technical Plastics utilise cutting edge technologies to supply clients in the medical, optics, and electronics applications industries. By retro-fitting a separate air blast cooler to an existing MK540 Chiller system at Carclo's Mitcham site, we have provided a solution which is set to reduce operating costs by almost 50% and will have paid for itself in just over two years.

The air blast cooler installed provides a cooling source during times of the year when the ambient will allow partial and up to 100% direct air cooling. This offloads the chiller and its associated high running costs. The air blast cooler becomes more effective as the air temperature drops, eventually leading to the compressors switching off altogether.

Ian Hood is delighted with the outcome so far: "We operate on partial free cooling when the ambient is between 11.5°C and 16.5°C. At 11°C and below we function entirely on free cooling".

He adds: "Carclo operates in fast growing and dynamic markets so our manufacturing process has to run like clockwork.
